Welcome back to part 2 of our summer skincare blog. This time we’re going to talk about what products in your daily home use are great for summer, and which ones you should shelf until the colder months.
KEEP– Your sunscreen. Duh. That’s a no brainer, right? But just in case we needed to say it…
DITCH– Heavy creams. Unless you are super dry by nature, sometimes what feels amazing on the skin in the winter can feel super gross in the summer. If your creams feel too heavy, and are making your skin feel greasy, don’t hesitate to swap out to lighter versions. Many lines make the same product in a cream and a serum version, for just that reason.
KEEP or ADD– Some kind of glycolic or salicylic acid wipe to keep with you. We mentioned in the previous entry that lovely “car sweat” thing. You know what we’re talking about… you are wearing shorts, or a cute little dress, and by the time you get out of your car, after sitting on the 405 for 2 solid hours (why, God, WHY?), you’re pretty sure you’ve lost about 9 lbs in water weight just from the back of your legs. Sometimes that can lead to some super (not) sexy little bumps forming on the back of your legs. And on your chest, and sometimes even your back (YAY SUMMER). Keeping a little jar of pads with glycolic and salicylic handy can help ward off those super unsexy summer bumps. A quick wipe down when you leave the gym, or when you just sat in the car for too long will help keep your pores clean.
DITCH – RetinA or any strong exfoliation while on vacation or if you know you will be at the beach or out in the sun for a few days. This can cause your skin to be much more sensitive to a sun burn and AGE SPOTS, which can be a nightmare to get rid of. (We’ll address hyperpigmentation in another blog, we could go on all day)
KEEP – Hydrating serums and any product that says “for sensitive skin”. Sensitive skin products have very calming ingredients great for summer heat and sun.
Well, you fabulous faces you, we bid you adieu for now. We’re off to the land of kiddie pool parties and mojitos (for the grownups). We hope you’re having an amazing summer so far! Stay tuned for our next blog. And as always, feel free to comment below or to contact us at Facial Bungalow in West Hollywood with any questions.
Ciao!
