the STAR STYLIST | MY MORNING ROUTINEJENNIFER RADE
Costume designer and stylist Jennifer Rade dresses everyone from Angelina Jolie to Caitlyn Jenner.
“Every day is different,” says the L.A.-based Rade. “I could be working on a music video, television series,
or ad campaign, or pulling red-carpet gowns.”8:30 AM WAKE-UP
SHOWERING FIRST THING wakes me up. Besides, I have to wet my curly hair every morning to restyle it; otherwise, it’s a dreadlock-y mess—like my hair went clubbing while I was asleep! I use Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner (4) to keep it hydrated and tamed.
8:50AM
I wrap my hair in a microfiber towel, then put on my facial moisturizers: Trina Reneá Red Tea Moisture Boost hydrating serum, followed by her 24/7 Defense (2), which looks like carrot juice and is packed with antioxidants. Over that, I apply Dr. Lancer’s The Method: Nourish Sensitive Skin cream.9AM
I scrunch a handful of Tresemmé Tres Extra-Firm Control Mousse through my hair to bring out my curls and then dry it with a diffuser attachment, which takes a solid 20 minutes. After that, I use an Enzo Milano curling wand to define some of the coils in the top layer and spray the whole thing with John Frieda Frizz Ease Firm Hold Hairspray.9:30AM
I love a smoky eye. I use MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder, then smudge on MAC Eye Shadow in Concrete (1), followed by a coat of mascara. I don’t wear foundation, but I blend IT Cosmetics No. 50 Serum with its Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Correcting Cream (3) and apply it wherever I get red. For just enough lipcolor, I dab on Korres’ tinted Lip Butter (5).9:45AM
Before I head out, I usually make a quesadilla with scrambled eggs and cheese, and a ton of sour cream and 6 hot sauce.NECESSARY INDULGENCES
SOFT TOUCH
My skin is extremely sensitive, so I swear by natural, gentle products like Mariana Chicet Wild Honey Body & Hand Soap, Éminence Organics Calm Skin Chamomile facial cleanser, and Epicuren Fresh Unscented After Bath Moisturizer body lotion.SIGNATURE SCENT
I always have a roll-on bottle of Sage Pearl Perfume Oil (6) in my bag. Everyone tells me that I smell delicious, and this vanilla- musk-sandalwood blend is my secret.
TEA TIME
I don’t drink coffee, but I sip Teas’ Tea Unsweetened Pure Green Tea throughout the day; it’s so refreshing. I have cases of the stuff delivered via Amazon Prime every month.Products Above: 1. MAC Eye Shadow in Concrete, $16. 2. TRINA RENEÁ SKINCARE 24/7 Defense, $72. 3. IT COSMETICS Bye Bye Redness Neutralizing Correcting Cream, $32. 4. WEN Fig Cleansing Conditioner, $32. 5. MY BEAUTY BUNNY
July 2015The Facial Bungalow – a Hidden Skin Care Oasis in Los Angeles!
I recently had a facial with the amazing Trina Renea, owner of The Facial Bungalow. The bungalow is like a hidden gem – slightly out of view of main street, Santa Monica Blvd, in West Hollywood. It’s super cute – like being at someone’s adorable cottage house, but filled with skin care goodness!
Those in the know go to Trina (she came highly recommended by Amber from Beauty Junkies Unite), and she has a superstar celebrity clientele, along with regular peeps like us, who want clean, clear, rockstar skin. Trina is truly gifted at what she does. She went over my entire medical background and skincare regimen (which is hard to pin down since I’m constantly reviewing new skincare products). I was impressed with her knowledge, training and background (she worked as a medical esthetician before opening up her salon).
Trina Renea started her first career in Los Angeles as a singer in a punk rock band, (OMG! How cool is that?) entertaining fans around the world. Trina’s band Lo-Ball was a success for Interscope records in the early 2000’s. After a world tour and post 9-11 USO tour in the middle east the band decided to go their separate ways.
In 2004 Trina started a new chapter in her life. She became an Esthetician and opened her own spa. Coming from the world of music and entertainment, she understands the importance of maintaining beautiful skin. She is passionate about the world of skincare and enjoys helping her clients gain knowledge on a perfect homecare regimen.
Trina has a passion for cosmetic chemistry and product knowledge and has worked for years on developing her own skincare line. She has worked with some of the best chemists in the United States to create her new line “Trina Renea Skincare”.
With special skin care techniques and nearly a decade as lead medical esthetician formerly at Rapaport Dermatology, Trina, owner of the Facial Bungalow has developed a personal and particular style that put her on the leading edge of the skin care industry. She is referred to today as a “skin master”
I told Trina that I had been using a lot of exfoliants for my recent “breakout from hell” (my skin has been freaking out after I stopped taking a medication I had been taking for 18 years). Because of all the treatments, my skin was a little thin and sensitive, so I asked her to go easy on me. She used her own products and a few cruelty free extras during the facial. She used steam, a sonic brush, and did some cleansing before doing very thorough extractions (which I needed desperately)! She put on a mask and finished with antioxidant moisturizing products and acne spot treatments (avoiding Vit C because I told her that is one ingredient my skin hates). She can also do microcurrent, ultrasonic treatment, light therapy and oxygen. Check out the treatment menu here.
Because my acne is cystic (and some very deep), she told me that benzoyl peroxide is the best treatment. I had already been in love with Jan Marini’s 10% benzoyl peroxide lotion for some time. She sells Jan Marini products, so I bought the 5% version to use all over my face (I was using the 10% as more of a spot treatment). She recommends these products highly because they are made with tiny molecules that are able to penetrate deep into the skin. They tend to be less drying and irritating than other products I have tried. Here’s a great article on acne care by Trina herself!
Trina sent me home with three products from her own line, Trina Renea Skincare! I was very excited to try them out. She told me that there are several different oxidant groups, and there are antioxidant ingredients that will work for each group. So, if you’re just using one, you’re missing the boat! Her 24/7 Defense sounded like just what I needed – antioxidants to prevent aging and to prevent and buffer skin from sun damage and the heavily toxic LA smog! I also took home her Laid Back Aloe & Azulene Gel Mask. It’s perfect for my upcoming vacation. I’ll use it after being out in the sun. And, her Hydrate Me! is just what I need for the plane. She gave me a 1 oz. size that will get me past airport security and will keep me hydrated during the flight – and while I’m out and about! It also protects against environmental assaults and good ‘ole LA smog! I’ll give you a full report on these products when I get back!

January 2015WARPAINT’S ROCK STAR BEAUTY:
AT-HOME HAIR DYE, LIPSTICK AS EYELINER,
AND THE BEST MASCARA OF ALL TIMEYesterday at two-thirty in the afternoon, the members of L.A.-based indie group Warpaint were sipping iced coffee in the sun on an uncharacteristically balmy October day in New York City—a welcome respite from their yearlong tour to promote their self-titled sophomore album. If it sounds a little late in the day to be caffeinating, it’s not: Their work day often starts around 10:00 p.m., as it did on Tuesday night, when Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee Lindberg, Emily Kokal, and Stella Mozgawa took the stage to perform their signature brand of spectral rock to a sold-out crowd at Webster Hall. There, the band’s shoe-gaze-y jams and hypnotic vocals were just as compelling as their rock star hair. Much like the music, their chromatic dye jobs and second-day textured strands walked the line between pretty and punk, while their onstage cat eyeliner had settled into a slept-in smolder. In the interest of mastering authentic she’s-in-the-band beauty, we sat down with the foursome to talk about everything from the perfect onstage mascara to the benefits of custom-dyeing your hair at home, and the best mascara ever made.
You’re going to be on the road until December. I’d imagine it’s difficult to pack your entire beauty regimen. If we were to open your suitcase right now, what would we find?JENNY: I follow a pretty strict skin care regimen morning and night with my face. So I pack face wash and sunblock from my facialist, Trina Renea, and a vitamin-C serum from Natura Bissé.
THERESA: I bring Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Concentrate because it’s so thick it feels like it’s going to soak in and actually do something. And then having nice face wash, toner, and lotion on the road is really important, too. I use Acure Organics products mostly, which is available at Whole Foods, that’s really good—it feels very light and very natural. Heritage Store Rosewater is the best toner.
EMILY: Yes! I want it right now! My skin gets dried out, so to keep hydrated, I spray a lot of face toners.
What about for your hair? Do you bring your own shampoo and conditioner with you or do you just use what’s in the hotel?
STELLA: The goal is to get as compact as possible, so you’re not lugging around three giant suitcases full of clothes and products. Bringing your own shampoo and conditioner is tough, but I think we all use Batiste dry shampoo—it’s cheap, classic. And Lucas Papaw is the most important thing. I put that everywhere.
What else do you bring for makeup?
STELLA: Mascara is my every day go-to if I’m going to be out in the world—it just helps. In the day I like Rimmel London. It’s really good and simple. Onstage, I go for more intense eyes, because as the drummer, I’m all the way in the back. I have a Chanel mascara that’s really thick—so I like that for a show. But I don’t try to look too glamorous because you can’t see my face—my hair covers everything.
THERESA: Josie Maran’s mascara is the best mascara that I’ve ever used. It has argan oil in it, and it actually feels like you’re healing your eyelashes when you’re putting it on.
What about eyeliner? I noticed a lot of cat eyes on stage.
THERESA: I like cat eyes on stage. It’s kind of all I know how to do. Otherwise, I wear brown eyeliner on my bottom waterline. I think it makes the brown of my eyes pop out—and it works for Stella too.
JENNY: There’s this really amazing Neutrogena Color Stick in Raisin that I wear right underneath my eyes that’s really good for smudging. It’s kind of red, so it’s subtle and not subtle at the same time. It’s actually a lip liner so I use it on my mouth, too. That’s how I learned to wear makeup. I wasn’t allowed to wear it in high school, but I had one Estée Lauder lipstick that I would use for blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, and lipstick. I also like the look of red lipstick like Rimmel London Moisture Renew in Diva Red on the lips with a bare face.
Your hair has stage presence—especially the way the bleach looks under the lights. Emily, when did you start dyeing your hair?
EMILY: I was at a photo shoot and just took advantage of a good, free colorist.[Laughs] I thought we were just going to lift my color a bit—I’m naturally a brunette—but I didn’t realize he was going to bleach it! That was a misunderstanding. It ended up being fine because I had pink hair, which was cool. But then it rinsed out really fast. That’s when Jen and I dyed it a light, icy blue. That faded out too, and I’ve been growing the roots out for a long time to try to be really organic about it. I might cut it off into a bob, too. I just recently chopped off over five inches with my kitchen scissors!
Is that something you do a lot? Dye your own hair?
EMILY: Jen does her own hair.
THERESA: She’s really good at it! She can color-match extensions to her hair.
JENNY: I used to have it done professionally, but it always looked too perfect. I would like it best when it faded out and turned different colors, so I just figured out how to do that myself. To keep my hair pink like this when I’m on tour, I dye it every five days with a mix of Manic Panic Cotton Candy Pink and Pretty Flamingo, blended with conditioner. Then I comb it through with my hands.
What’s your beauty indulgence when you finally get home?
EMILY: Beverly Hot Springs for a steam. I’ve been going there for twelve years. It’s a natural hot spring.
JENNY: I always love getting massages, acupuncture, and facials as well.
STELLA: For me it’s running every single day for my mental health. Running changes everything.
THERESA: I lay on my couch for like two days straight. [Laughs] And sleep. And then I come out looking great! Sleep is the best thing you can do for your face and your body.

A hunt for what keeps the locals in Los Angeles looking so mighty fine brought our pages to the West Hollywood phenom; Facial Bungalow.

It’s West Hollywood on it’s best behavior.

SHE’S IN THE GLOW
September 2014HOW TO ACTUALLY ERASE DARK SPOTS…FOREVER
I basically came out of the womb as a sun worshipper. I spent every summer day at the neighborhood pool, refusing to wear sunscreen, and went to the tanning salon weekly in high school. I convinced myself I had seasonal depression and it was “healthy.” Oh, high schoolers. Granted a little Vitamin D is good for the soul, I never listened to mama’s talk about how I would regret it big time someday, even though the creepy spotted skin on all the tanning salon employees secretly concerned me. But then I’d convince myself otherwise, thinking, “I’m half Asian so that won’t happen to me anyway….right?”
Luckily, I am way more vigilant about my skincare now, but sun damage does accumulate and many of you, like me, could be dealing with issues like dark spots now as a result of how you treated your skin years and years ago or even just from this past summer. Age is also a factor and you could be seeing dark spots pop up out of the blue even if you have taken proper care of your skin throughout your life. I know, I feel you… it’s really not fair.
I’m not proud of my sinful, skin abusing past, and I have some pesky dark spots to show for it, but there are things I do to undo some of the damage and prevent further spotting. One of the most important things, aside from daily SPF (I use Trina Renea’s 24/7 Defense religiously), is a deep exfoliating and brightening facial every eight weeks from my miracle-working LA based facialist, Trina Renea. And if you are based in New York, you should consider a trip to Skin specialist, Dangene. If you can’t make it to see a facialist as often as you’d like, exfoliate on your own twice a week (right now I’m using suppper effective Tatcha’s Deep Rice Enzyme Exfoliator) in conjunction with targeted dark spot treatments. Here are some of my favorites to try. I promise, all of these make a HUGE difference:
Trina Renea Flawless Serum: The name is no gimmick! This Cell Youth Serum has 14 worldwide patents and uses an exclusive technology that helps skin repair itself from all past damage and to prevent signs of aging in the future. Use it twice daily and you’ll notice tighter, firmer, and more contoured skin. Your skin will be FLAWLESS, truly. I swear by this stuff and there’s the science to back it!
Shiseido White Lucent Total Brightening Serum: In Thailand where my mom is from, dark spots are the devil! She has always been vigilant about achieving perfectly clear skin and this serum by Shiseido is ace. Meant for daily use, it not only works as a complexion corrector, but over time your skin will inherit this pearly, lit-from-within glow.
Verso Skincare Dark Spot Fix: The one and only Annie Atkinson actually turned me on to this product! The incredible formula contains a concentrated dose of Retinol 8, which is a stable Vitamin A that makes it suitable for sensitive skin. Say bye bye to dark spots and acne scars and HELLO to smoother, younger skin!
Peter Thomas Roth De-Spot Plus: Hydroquinone is the secret weapon in this powerful serum that not only fades spots but helps prevent new ones from forming for a more balanced and even skintone.
Dermadoctor Photodynamic Age Spot Eraser & Skin Brightener: With their award-winning Photodynamic Therapy red light technology, see discoloration and hyper-pigmentation disappear while botanical boosters soothe the skin and prevent irritation.
Ole Henrikson Sheer Transformation: This is a moisturizer that works overtime to exfoliate, re-texturize, brighten, and balance the skin, while fading dark spots all at the same time. It’s light, oil-free, and has natural ingredients like sandalwood, geranium, and chamomile that are super calming. It’s a great option that’s safe to use everyday if you have sensitive skin like me!
Jurlique Purely Bright Facial Treatment Mask: I love sheet masks because they are so luxuriously moisturizing. This one adds a dose of VitaBrightKX technology to reduce skin discolorations and even out skin tone in as little as 10 minutes. It is such a cult favorite that they tend to be out of stock frequently, so get them in bulk when you can!
Lancôme DreamTone Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector: LIFE CHANGING. It comes in three different tones to choose from depending on your skin color. It directly targets imperfections such a dark spots and blemishes, and leaves skin looking flawless. It smells of roses and is slightly tinted to reduce redness and leave skin looking super healthy.

June 2014GOT ACNE? STOP SQUEEZING AND
SEE TRINA AT FACIAL BUNGALOW NOW!I don’t know WTF is going on with my skin, but last month had me looking like a pizza face teenage boy. Not kidding. I thought maybe I was taking too much DHEA – until I realized I wasn’t taking ANY.
Hormones? (yes) Stress? (yes). What did I do? Picked, clawed and did the opposite of the responsible thing – which was what I finally did today, however, a bit too late – when I head straight to Trina for an Extraction Facial.
Trina, of Facial Bungalow spent 8 years at Rapaport Dermatology as an acne specialist. Literally. If anyone knows how to deal, heal and medically extract an acne eruption, its Trina.
First, I got a little reprimand from her – as expected and I deserved every bit of “WHY DIDN’T YOU COME IN ASAP?!!”, etc… Next, she did her best to heal the situation. But the scabs are bad, the damage was done. UGH.
She cleaned out my skin (um, wounds? yah, this is gross) and worked her magic on my minefield of a face. Bottom line, if you have a break out DON’T TOUCH IT!
Head straight to Trina – seriously. She is not only the top anti-aging aesthetician in town, she is a force of nature with acne and extractions. I learned my lesson. Please don’t make the same mistake!!

May 2014The Best Anti-Aging Secret That You Can Start Immediately!
Ever wondered what’s the best kept secret to prevent your skin from having premature wrinkles and aging? Plus, receive the luxury of NOT spending money later in life on painful and unnecessary anti-aging products, procedures?
Well the secret is simple – practice safe sun and wear SPF daily!
Last month we talked about the importance of antioxidants. These little warriors help tremendously with your sun protection, especially when your sunscreen starts wearing off. They step up and fight free radicals from destroying your cells. Today antioxidants are a must have in skin protection and aging.
This month is Skin Cancer awareness month. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. But the good news is that skin cancer is chiefly a lifestyle disease. It is also highly preventable.
Did you know that more than 90% of visible changes attributed to skin aging are caused by the sun? With summer right around the corner and temperatures already soaring in the city, it’s time to slather on the sunscreen and protect your skin against premature aging.
Studies show that people who use sunscreen daily show 24% less skin gaining than those who do not. Sunscreen is the number one preventative topical product that you can use against aging. It prevents more than fixes, but if you think about it, it’s much easier to prevent the signs of aging than it is to reverse wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, or anything else that has already set in. Sunscreen protects you from the sun’s harmful UV rays and prevents even more damage (and possibly cancer) from happening to your skin. So to prevent wrinkles and aging skin, wear a higher SPF and reapply every two hours.
Important tips:
1. Seek the shade, especially between 10am – 4pm. So if you are planning lunch outside. Sit in the shade. If you are planning outside exercise do it before 10am or after 4pm.
2. Do not burn. If you have more that 5 burns in a lifetime your risk for melanoma doubles.
3. No tanning booths. We all know that!
4. Make sure your SPF is BROAD SPECTRUM (UVA/UVB). Its best to use an SPF of 30 or higher.
5. Cover up with clothing when out in the sun.
6. Apply your sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside.
7. Keep newborns out of the sun. Just one severe sunburn in childhood doubles the chances of developing melanoma later in life.
8. See your physician every year for a professional skin exam.
And remember, it’s always sunny everywhere…
Don’t assume you’re inoculated against photo damage just because the sun is barely up when you leave for work and sets on your commute home. Unlike UVB light, UVA rays travel through windows in the office, home, and car, warns Dover. Until recently, few worried much about the latter wavelength, partly because it causes a tenth as much tanning as the former. Both UVB and UVA rays are damaging to the skin and can cause premature aging.
The FDA has changed the rules for sunscreens. The most important thing to know is that manufacturers are not aloud to label their sunscreens above a 50+. Anything above a 50+ does NOT give you more protection. Also you must apply every two hours to be fully protected in the sun.
“I see clients of all ages coming in for facials with sun damage and pre-mature aging that could have easily been avoided,” stated Trina Renea, founder of the Facial Bungalow. “This has inspired me to formulate my very own TRS Natural Physical Sunscreen that’s SPF 50+ and comes in an easy to use spray bottle.”
Trina Renea Skincare Sheer Physical Sunscreen SPF 50+ is an innovative formulation that utilizes highly refined ingredients and advanced sheer Physical sunscreen SPF 50+ is gentle on sensitive and acne-prone skin, provides lasting protection against UVA and UVB rays, and is water resistant (40 minutes). This sunscreen blocks most UVA and UVB radiation from reaching the skin, minimizes the effect of UV damage, and provides up to 50 times your skin’s natural protection from sunburn. And the best part is that it is loaded with antioxidants for extra protection.

ELITE WEDDING
Spring 2014FABULOUS FACE
By Isabelle GullöWhat bride doesn’t dream of flaunting flawless skin on her wedding day? After all, it’s the event of a lifetime. Trina Renea, owner of Facial Bungalow in West Hollywood and L.A.’s go-to skincare specialist for celebs getting red-carpet ready, compares this very special occasion to the Oscars. “You’re the center of attention, and so you want to look and feel your absolute best,” she says. “And if your skin doesn’t look good, you don’t feel good.” So how do you lay the foundation for a gorgeous big-day glow? Take cue from Renea’s bridal beauty dos and don’ts.
DO get on a serious routine of monthly facials at least six months before your event and stay consistent with a daily home-care routine of exfoliation and hydration to ensure clear skin.
DON’T skimp on your skincare budget. Set aside between $1,000 and $3,000. It’s worth the results.
DO drink 4 to 8 cups of water a day. Flavor it with fresh cucumber to tempt your taste buds, or better yet, eat the cucumber itself. At 96 percent water and packed with nutritious minerals, it will give your skin a boost from the inside out.
DON’T switch products. It can upset your skin and undo the progress you have made.
DO exfoliate, cleanse and moisturize your skin every night before bed.
DON’T stress. It weighs on your skin. Try yoga, meditation, massage—anything that lowers cortisol levels.
DO grind up or muddle a cucumber and apply it as a mask. Rich in vitamin C and caffeic acid, it soothes skin and eases puffiness.
DON’T forget to wear sunscreen every day. It will protect your skin from sun damage and dark spots and keep it evenly toned.
DO use serums. They penetrate deep into your skin, providing hydration and nutrients. Use hydrating gel masks to your keep complexion soft and dewy.
DON’T do a cleanse or detox within six months of your wedding day. It can make you break out.
DO the facials and prep your skin in your hometown, not at the wedding destination. Remember, the therapist doesn’t know your complexion. Get your last treatment before you go, and take products with you.
DON’T try anything new, like waxing your face close to your wedding day. You can tear your skin or cause a breakout.
DO wash your face the night before, using your creams as usual. The day of the event, wash your face with only water, then towel dry, put on your serums, moisturizer and sunscreen.
DON’T hire a makeup (or hair) person without a trial first. Sometimes it takes a few practice runs to get it right where you like it.
DO Use a primer before adding makeup to ensure a flawless finish. Avoid creases on your eyelids by applying powder prior to putting on eyeliner or eye shadow.

The product room houses various bottles of signature moisturizers, face washes and serums created by the owner Trina Renea. Trina Renea Skincare is a product line made with special skincare techniques. She is referred to today as the “Skin Master”, with hundreds of beautiful faces that reinforce the title.
Lobby Product Room Salon At Facial Bungalow, guests are escorted into private candle lit suites, where they’re provided a pre-facial consultation by a Medical Licensed Esthetician, to determine the products and treatments best suited for their skincare needs. Guests melt into a soft heated bed and are wrapped in luscious blankets for the ultimate facial experience.
Facial Suite Facial Bed Recently, Owner Trina Renea provided a client with a facial typically used on her celebrity clients before Oscar season. The facial consisted of a microdermabrasion, Vitamin A peel, high frequency extractions, oxygen peel and circulation. Soft relaxing sounds played throughout the dimly lit room as the Medical Esthetician rejuvenated the client’s skin down to the cellular level. The hydrated skin instantly drank up the rich serums that were applied throughout the face. Unlike other facials, Renea uses various techniques, including applying different mask to various areas of the face. “Each area of the face often requires different attention. Sometimes people have acne in their T-zones but dry or blemished skin in other areas, it’s essential to treat each area accordingly.” says Renea.
Cleaning the Face Removing Dead Skin Extractions Not only does Facial Bungalow provide luxury comfort and service, but they also have a secret weapon… “The Skin Mystro!” An exclusive Italian machine, nicknamed by Renea, provides clients with healthy and stunning skin. Facial Bungalow is the only spa in Los Angeles with the highly coveted machine, which clients anxiously attend to experience.

Spring 2014The Best Nighttime Skin-Care Routine
If you’re on the warpath to fight aging, and your skin isn’t sensitive, it’s time to bring out the big guns. Selecting products with active ingredients small enough to penetrate past the uppermost layer of skin – the stratum comeum – will help affect your skin’s appearance from the inside.
Or. Palm suggests using an alpha-hydroxy acid-based cleanser (along with at-home pad preparations soaked with AHA and glycol acids) a few times a week, which can help strip the outermost layer of skin and allow greater penetration of other topically applied active Ingredients.
Once the skin Is primed to receive anti-aging treatments, look for those with peptides, vitamin A derivatives, and antioxidants, since these Ingredients can help repair your skin. Dr. Wu echoes the Importance of lncorporating vitamin A derivatives (retlnolds), since they •have decades of research showing that they boost skin’s collagen and elastln tissue production, helping to strengthen and firm.”
Finally, If your skin can take It, stick to a more Intensive regimen at night. Dr. Palm says, “If you’re really going for anti-aging and your skin Is tolerant, you don’t want to waste time on things that are meant for sensitive skin or aren’t going to be entirely beneficial.”

September 2013THE ANTI-AGING INGREDIENT MORE IMPORTANT THAN SUNSCREEN
You wear sunscreen every day (or, OK most days) and you think you’re stopping aging at the source, right? After all according to the US Envi-ronmental Projection Agency up to 90% of preventable aging is caused by UV exposure. For the last few decades everyone from dermatologists to beauty editors have been stressing the importance to SPF. “Wear sunscreen or you’ll look old and wrinkly way before your time” has always been our motto.
Have we been wrong this whole time? Here’s the thing SPF is NOT enough to protect you from sun damage. Sunscreens block UVA and UVB rays, but those rays only account for 7% of the sun’s energy
New research finds that infrared radiation, which makes up 54% of so-lar energy, also causes aging – and it might even be worse than UV rays. While there is no one product that can totally guard you from infrared radiation, studies show that antioxidants in skin care help!
We have all heard the word “free radical” and we know that they aren’t good. But now we found that there isn’t just one free radical. There are *3 FAMILIES of free radicals that age us rapidly. What can we do to stop the madness? Eat fruits and veggies containing antioxidants and use products rich in Antioxidants.
More and more skin care experts now recommend wearing an antioxidant like TRS 24/7 Defense AND a sunscreen and many of them believe that the anti-oxidant portion is the most important of the duo!
What are free radicals?
To break it down, a free radical is an unstable oxygen molecule with an un-even number of electrons. These free radicals are looking to steal electrons from your cells in order to complete themselves and the result is damage in the form of inflammation, pigmentation and even DNA damage. Basically free radicals are our enemy! The more they accumulate in our skin the more they damage our healthy cells and the faster we age!To the good news…antioxidants are the best-known way to neutralize these free radicals before they start attacking our healthy cells!
How do antioxidants work?
If free radicals are your enemies, then antioxidants are your heroes! Antioxidants provide the missing electron, so the free radicals don’t try to take them from your skin.Antioxidants work to stop this damaging, disease-causing chain reaction that free radicals have started. Each type of antioxidant works either to prevent the chain reaction or stop it after it’s started.
To conclude, here are 5 ways antioxidants can help save your skin!
1) Anti-inflammation
2) Skin firming:
3) Reduced appearance of wrinkles
4) Scar treatment
5) Repair of sun damageAntioxidants help prevent the breakdown of elastin and when used with Retinols which speed up cell turnover and peptides which tell your skin to make more collagen the results are amazing! Bottom line: Remember to use an antioxidant serum, like TRS 24/7 Defense, which has 18 potent powerhouse antioxidants that wipe out all 3 free radical families. And is the only one of its kind on the market. So don’t wait any longer, start using antioxidants today!

August 2013FACIAL BUNGALOW’S MICRO CURRENT FACE TREATMENTS:
LOS ANGELES ANTI-AGING SECRETThe only problem with discovering a gem of an aesthetician like Trina Renea is that now I’m feeling all uh yah ok so I don’t need to know about anyone else now she’s IT kinda thing. And then I start feeling bad for everyone else because from now on, I am only going to send everyone to Trina. Yeah, I’m complicated.
Trina is more than an aesthetician, she is a teacher and trainer hired by top derms and med spas to guide their aestheticians and bring them up to speed in all things skin and face. She’s highly educated and continues to learn everything there is to know about her work such as cosmetic compounding, the latest in cutting edge skin devices and anti-aging skin care. Trina cut her teeth for seven years working with power dermatologist Dr. Vicki Rapaport dealing with dermatological challenges like severe Acne and scarring ( a speciality!)
I couldn’t wait to meet Trina and I was especially eager to check out her infamous micro-current face treatment, a device she calls the Skin Maestro. I popped over to her adorable and extremely private Facial Bungalow in West Hollywood to see what the Skin Masetro herself was all about.
Trina is the only one in town with this specific micro current device. What makes micro-current such an important part of your skin regime are the electrodes – they stimulate the production of amino acids and ATP (cellular energy) which makes collagen and elastin within the skin’s surface, revealing a new youthful appearance.
Combining three technologies, the Facial Bungalow’s Skin maestro machine is a revolutionary instrument for rejuvenating the skin. This machine removes the superficial layer and regenerates the deeper layer making the face youthful and luminous from the very first treatment. This top of the range machine, the only one of its kind in Southern California provides these essential functions:
· Peeling – The Skin maestro is guaranteed to peel away the top 50% corneous layer of your skin that holds most of the sebum and toxic substances.
· Hydration – The Skin maestro provides perfect hydration after the peeling treatment, driving serums and moisturizers deeper into the skin.
· Regeneration – The Skin maestro’s circular and electrodes stimulate the skin’s metabolism and effectively rejuvenates the skin one wrinkle at a time.
· Deep Wrinkles – The Skin maestro’s micro currents aid in collagen and elastin production bringing back elasticity that causes the signs of aging to disappear.
Now as you know I have tried every device out there, and for a facial treatment, this one left me looking ridiculously plumped and glowing, and my skin continued to look better by the day. It’s so powerful that if you are prone to cold sores, check in with Trina and see if you should take a prophylactic Valtrex before hand as it wakes up the nerves on such a deep level, it will cause a break out.
I left Trina’s texting all my facial Beauty Concierge clients with her info as I walked to my car. No joke.
You will love her cozy bungalow – it’s totally zenned out and private, homey and comfy. Her aestheticians go through months of grueling training before she puts them on the floor so no matter who you see you are in superb hands.
Check out her various packages below and let me know when you fall in love like I did!

July 2013Second Careers
Did you move to skin care after previously working in another profession?
I worked for a minor league baseball team doing community relations. I got so burned out working 12–14 hours a day during the summer when the team was at home. My mom encouraged me to take an esthetics course, and nearly five years later, I still love esthetics.
Stacey Walsh
ERWIN, NORTH CAROLINAI spent 11 years in the restaurant industry: cashier, food prep, manager, and supervisor. I have used that background in customer service every single day. If your clients know you value them as humans and not as dollar signs, and that you want to do everything you can to help them, they will become loyal clients.

VIA FACEBOOKI had a bachelor’s degree in recreation, and ran a Family Fun Center (mini golf, arcade, etc.). I got tired of always feeling like the evil stepmom to 70 teenagers. Skin care was the answer for me. It has been almost eight years, and I’ve never been happier!
Keri McMillan
VIA FACEBOOKI was the singer in a punk band called Lo Ball. I spent my life in the music industry: in bands, behind the scenes, and managing recording studios. In the band, we wore a lot of makeup and needed our skin to look amazing, so I thought, “If this ever ends, I would be great in the skin care business!” In 2004, my band broke up. I immediately, and happily, enrolled in esthetics school, and I have never looked back.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIAI majored in social work. By my late twenties, I was burned out. I still wanted to help people, but wasn’t sure how. When I found esthetics, I thought, “Aha!” It’s been a real blessing, and my background has given me an understanding ear for my clients.

VIA FACEBOOKI was in the grocery business, taking care of the accounting and pretty much all other administration. a year before going back to school for esthetics, but I consider what I learned that year to be the equivalent of getting an MBA! I count my blessings that I can work every day with people who care about their quality of life and are taking steps to improve it.

I get SO excited when I discover something really FAB that most people don’t know about and then I get the pleasure of sharing it with you! Allow me to introduce you the Facial Bungalow, an intimate salon/spa nestled in a hidden location in West Hollywood that offers gorgeous customized skincare treatments. The space is cozy, inviting and so relaxing that you’ll be tempted to spend the whole afternoon there!
Trina Renea is the radiant and affable owner of the Facial Bungalow and a seasoned skincare professional who has worked as a medical esthetician for years honing her talents. Being on the leading edge of the skin care industry is of the utmost importance to Trina and because of this, many loyalists refer to her as a skin master. Trina also has an enthusiastic passion for cosmetic chemistry and product knowledge and she worked with some of the best chemists in the industry creating her own fabulous skincare line called Trina Renea Skincare.
Trina and I instantly hit it off, talking all things beauty! She did a thorough pre-facial consultation to determine the products and treatments that would be best suited to my skin type and she created a wonderful customized treatment to hydrate and rejuvenate my skin. Here’s a recap of the Platinum Facial with an add-on Pumpkin Peel that she indulged me with:
- My facial started with a thorough cleanse using a Clarisonic brush for deep cleaning
- Then an almost edible Pumpkin peel for brightening and exfoliation
- Next, thorough and skillful extractions to clean my pores
- A serum to calm and put water back into my skin
- Then a rejuvenating Aloe mask with high frequency to give my skin oxygen and kill bacteria
- Followed by a fabulous cocktail of Trina Renea special antioxidant serums andMinimeyes (Trina’s AMAZEBALLS anti-aging serum)
- Then a moisturizer for sensitive skin and the Jan Marini Anti-Oxidant Daily Face Protection SPF 30
- Last a pump of Colorescience Skin Bronzing Primer SPF 20 to give my skin a golden glow
Sounds kinda FAB, right? Well, it was and my skin glowed for days afterwards. I highly rec treating yourself to a facial with Trina, your skin will thank you.

July 2013Showing off flawless skin during the steamy summer season can be as difficult as finding the perfect bikini. With air conditioners on full blast and the sun beating down, it’s important to both prevent and eliminate dull, dehydrated skin and damage from wrinkle-causing rays.
DON’T FORGET SALT AND CHLORINE
Hitting the pool or beach may be refreshing, but all that salt and chlorine can dry out your pores. To keep your skin supple without compromising on summer fun, West Hollywood-based esthetician Trina Renea says it’s crucial to cleanse thoroughly daily. “Buy products made for sensitive skin during the summer,” she states. “Sensitive skin products are gentle and keep the skin cool and inflammation free.” For an extra boost of coolness, Renea says to keep those products in the fridge. Also, she says after getting home from the beach or pool, take a shower with cool water as warmer temperatures will only dry out your skin more.BEAUTY BEYOND 40
Summer 2013Beauty Beyond 40
I wanted to get some skin care tips from another highly recommended esthetician for a slightly different perspective. Trina Renea is based in Los Angeles and works with some pretty elite clientele, including film and television stars. She keeps her clients glowing with beautiful skin, so I thought she’d be an excellent candidate to interview for BB40. I’ve interviewed her with questions about which leading products to use, and which anti-aging treatments to receive regularly in order to maintain youthful looking skin.
What are your favorite skin care treatments and why? How often should your clients come in for facials/treatments in order to keep their skin more supple and younger looking?
My favorite skin care treatment is Micro-current because it helps build elastin in your skin and also helps to tighten it. I also love Micro-dermabrasion and Superficial Peels. These treatments remove the excess dead skin cells off the surface of your epidermis so that your products can penetrate better. It also speeds up your cell growth and gives you a fresh glow. I recommend getting a facial with deep exfoliation once a month to keep your skin in its optimum health. I also believe in getting a Micro-current every week to two weeks to keep your skin firm and tight. An oxygen treatment is excellent for plumping and hydrating skin.
Which products offer the most anti-aging benefits and why?
The product that offers the most anti aging benefits is Sunscreen. It’s the number one thing to keep your skin from aging rapidly. The sun rapidly ages your skin by causing free radical damage, which destroys your cells. Antioxidants are little warriors that protect your skin from excess sun damage. They add extra protection in conjunction with your sunscreen and also brighten your skin.AHAs gently exfoliate your skin without the need of harsh scrubs. They expel the surface dead skin cells to help speed up the metabolism of cell growth. AHAs also help your products penetrate deeper and keep your pores from getting clogged. Peptides repair your damaged skin cells so that your DNA can make good cells. They also signal to your skin to make more collagen. Transforming growth factor (TGF) stimulates collagen production and epidermal growth factor (EGF). EGFstimulates skin-cell production.
Are there any dermatological treatments or plastic surgeon treatments that you would recommend to women over 40?
The two treatments I recommend for mature skin from a Dermatology office are the following.IPL(Intense Pulse Light Therapy), if you have brown spots and redness on your skin. IPL / Photo Facial helps remove brown spots from sun damage, and redness within the skin. Ulthera is a treatment used for skin tightening and Thermage is also a non-invasive skin tightening treatment.
Do you believe in using naturally derived, organic, and non-irritating products or do products with chemicals offer better results? Are there any chemicals in skin care or treatments that we should avoid or that are harmful?
I believe if you use all natural organic products you are taking a risk. These products can spoil quickly and are not usually stable, which can hurt and damage your skin. All chemicals are not bad and are necessary in skincare products to keep your skin at its optimum health. There are some chemicals you want to avoid, but if you are using good products from your esthetician or doctors office you are usually safe. It’s the larger skincare companies who mass produce products that tend to use harmful ingredients. They usually do this in order to cut costs and have a lower retail price for the consumer. Buyers beware.
Trina Renea’s bio: Trina has a passion for cosmetic chemistry and product knowledge and has worked for years on developing her own skin care line. She has worked with some of the best chemists in the United States to create her own line, “Trina Renea Skin care”. With special skin care techniques, Trina has developed a personal and particular style that put her on the leading edge of the skin care industry. She is referred to today as a “skin master”. ELITE WEDDING
Fall 2012Red Carpet Radiance on Your Wedding Day
What bride doesn’t dream of flaunting flawless skin on her wedding day? After all, it’s the biggest event of your life. By Isabelle Gullö
Some-times it takes a few practice runs to get it right where you like it.
DO Use a primer before adding makeup to ensure a flawless finish. Avoid creases on your eyelids by applying powder prior
to putting on eyeliner or eye shadow.DO get on a serious routine of monthly facials at least six months before your event and stay consistent with a daily home-care routine of exfoliation and hydration to ensure clear skin.

Skin Maestro programs at her Facial Bungalow (facialbungalow.com). “If a bride has an unlimited budget, I’d start monthly treatments one year in advance.” Why so early? “You have a lot of gather-ings to look good for, from the engagement party and bachelorette party to your wedding day,” explains the skincare pro, adding, “You’ll see an unbelievable transformation that will last at least 12 months after your big day. If you continue to maintain with follow-ups, you will not need a facelift for 10 to 15 years.”“Your skin shows how you feel inside. August 2012Stacie Lawrence Flashes The 411 On Her Healthy Lifestyle
Imagine, you’re walking down the street, thinking over your worries of the day and suddenly the 10 strangers walking near you break into a choreographed song and dance, bringing an instant smile to your face and an immediate hault to your negative thoughts. When the performance is complete you stand thinking to yourself, “I wish I could thank someone for this.” Well now you can! If you have ever been lucky enough to witness a flash mob event, Stacie Lawrence is the woman to thank. Lawrence co-founded Flash Mob America with Conroe Brooks for the sole purpose of bringing joy to those around her. When she’s not organizing a spontaneous burst of happiness, Stacie is spending time with her family and like most moms, doing her very best to keep them happy and healthy.
SM: You’ve become an amazing inspiration for many mothers on “doing it all”. What advice do you have for busy moms in having a successful career while maintaining the role as wife and mother?
SL: “I have three rules I live by: #1 – Ask for Help. You have nothing to prove to anyone. You’re already Super Woman and you
don’t get any points for spreading yourself so thin that you (and your family) suffer. #2 – Say no. You’re the only one that can set your boundaries. Let go of the ‘people pleaser’” role and spend your time only on projects and people that a) support your health and happiness, b) allow you more quality time with your family, and c) inspire your work. #3 – Be Present. I wish I could say ‘stop multi-tasking,’ but we all know that’s next to impossible. The next best thing is to ‘be where you are’ as often as you can. We have a rule in our home office that when our daughter comes into the room, we stop what we are doing and give her our full attention – no matter what. In addition, if we’re spending one-on-one time with her, the cell phones are put away. ‘No texting and driving’ is rule #1, but no ‘texting and playing’ is right up there with it.”SM: How do you find time to eat well and workout with your busy schedule?
SL: “I treat my ‘me’ time the same way I would a business meeting. I literally schedule it on the calendar, and then I send an email invitation to our entire staff so I’m accountable for it. If they show up to work and I’m not at yoga, I have to answer to them. I’m fortunate that everyone who works with us enjoys eating well too, so we help each other by doing meal planning as a team. One trick that I find really helps is that grocery store trips aren’t complete until the veggies are washed, cut, and stored in the fridge. That way it never takes more than a minute to throw together a healthy salad.”
SM: Do you have any exciting projects coming up?
SL: “I’m excited to go home to Detroit this summer and Flash Mob an awards show. It’s always been a dream of mine to travel back home for work – and I have so much love and respect for the people in the city. They’re proud, hard-working folks and the city is electric. Detroit gets a bad rap, but it’s a magical place to me. The story of my family is there.”
SM: What fitness, food, or health/beauty products are you loving right now?
SL: “The first thing I reach for when I get out of the shower is Trina Renea Skincare’s Moisture Boost. It’s a Red Tea Hydrating Serum that is just luscious. Red Tea is a really potent antioxidant (50 times greater than Green Tea!) and it’s just a great big drink for your skin. I love the way I feel after I use it. Trina is also a mom who “does it all.” You can find it at www.facialbungalow.com.”
SM: Out of all your personal and professional achievements, what has been the most shocking or exciting endeavor you’ve experienced?
SL: “Flash Mob America is by far the most shocking experience of my life. For years I have tried to break through in my acting career, and most of the time I just feel invisible in the industry. Then we put together a little Michael Jackson tribute – just for the pure joy of it – and not only has it defined a chapter of our lives, but it’s given us worldwide visibility. I absolutely love the community of people who have come together through FMA, and every day I am grateful for them.”
SM: What keeps you motivated to maintain your fit lifestyle? What gets you through those bad days we all have?
SL: “My family, hands down. I want to be here for them, and inspire them to be their best selves for as long as I can. Being a role model to my daughter is what drives me. What really gets me through the more challenging days is just getting out of my own way and being honest about what I’m struggling with. Once I say it out loud and talk it out a bit, I realize it sounds silly, I’ve wasted more energy avoiding it, and it’s time to get going.”
SM: What is the craziest, fad diet you’ve ever tried?
SL: “I was vegan for 12 years, but I wasn’t a quinoa-salad-and-beet-juice type of vegan. I was the “hey onion rings are vegan” kind of girl, and I just couldn’t sustain that. My husband did a ‘no carbs or sugar’ thing a few years back and I realized that was all I was eating. It was time for a change.”
SM: What is your favorite healthy meal?
SL: “Kale salad, salmon (lemon, pepper, garlic, and mustard is my go-to marinade) and garlic mashed potatoes. Wait? Are mashed potatoes not healthy? Because I love them! I hope they never come out with a study that says mustard is bad for you, because I put it on everything.”
SM: In one sentence, what advice do you have for women to push through all the roadblocks, excuses, and external factors and become their best self?
SL: “First, stop being so hard on yourself. We get so stuck in the story of how hard it’s been and how long it’s taking to get there, but if we can stay present and trust that where we are right now is the most important step in our journey, the road doesn’t seem so long.”
